The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has suspended the sale of motor vehicle licences at two of its offices to better facilitate activities for the submission of income, property and corporation tax returns.
In a press release the GRA said from yesterday until May 2 the GRA Tax Operations and Services offices located at the Guyana Post Office (GPO) and the Value Added Tax (VAT) buildings have temporarily halted the sale of licences to facilitate the submission and payment of the said taxes.
Commissioner-General Khurshid Sattaur said, “This action was necessary to ensure that there is a smooth process for taxpayers, including those who are not owners of motor vehicles, to honour their obligations…” This is the second year that the GRA has allowed the sale of vehicle licences to locations other than the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) in an effort to make the process more convenient for motorists. These licences will continue to be sold at the LRO and across the country.
The GRA has established a number of tax sites across the country allowing taxpayers the convenience of obtaining their vehicle licences from a location nearest to their homes. This is another initiative that will provide them with an efficient and simplified method of submitting their tax returns. In addition to collecting returns, staff at these temporary sites will be providing assistance on computing and completing the various returns. A number of booklets bearing this information are also available for free distribution to the public.
In the city, tax sites have been established at the GPO’s North Road entrance, the Customs and Trade Administration lobby, at the City Mall and at N&S Mattai. These sites will serve the public until April 29. The public is also advised to check the daily newspapers or the GRA’s website located at www.gra.gov.gy for the location nearest to them.
The sale of motor vehicle licences will resume at the VAT and GPO buildings on May 3.
