Annjee’s Fashions announced yesterday that it will be sponsoring the upcoming Twenty/20 Arrival Cup Tournament which will be held on May 1 at the Albion Sports Complex Ground, Berbice from 09:00hrs.

This was disclosed at a press conference yesterday afternoon at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground.

The conference was chaired by Leana Bradshaw, PRO of the Georgetown Association.

The competition will be played in one day and will consist of four teams, namely the Georgetown Association XI, the East Coast Demerara Carib Jaguars, the West Berbice Super Kings and the East Berbice Titans according to Chairman of the Arrival Management Committee (AMC), Abel Seetaram.

“A lot of former cricketers and national players vying for places in the Guyana T/20 squad will be in action at the competition,” Seetaram stated. The third annual event will feature strictly first division players as opposed to the last two years which featured under-19 teams, according to Seetaram.

“I felt by going this way with strictly first division cricketers for the tournament, it will be a bigger competition, attracting a larger crowd,” Seetaram stated.

Seetaram also told Stabroek Sport that the names of the players for the different teams will be released next Thursday.

“It’s a tournament that helps the cricketers that earn higher achievements and we’re happy to be a part of it,” Chattergoon added.

While the event will see two semi-finals being played followed by the final, cash incentives and trophies will be at stake and the winner of the tournament will receive $100,000 and the runner-up team $60,000.

Trophies will also be given to the Man-of-the- Tournament, Best Bowler and Batsman and Man-of-the Match.  Meanwhile earlier in the day Managing Director of Kanhai’s Guyana Electrical Agency on Regent Street, Kamal Kanhai, gave sponsorship to Seetaram for the Arrival Cup Tournament in a brief presentation at the Regent Street store.

However tickets for the event will go on sale from next Wednesday at various places throughout Demerara and Berbice, according to Seetaram.
