The longstanding cricket rivalry between the Rose Hall Town, Youth & Sports Club and the Albion Cricket Club will continue on Sunday at the Area ‘H’ Ground when the two teams meet in the finals of the 2010 Berbice Cricket Board/Spready’s Under-19, 50-Overs Cricket Tournament.
The game is scheduled to begin at 09.30 hours and a final of the highest standard is expected as both teams are equally matched with several potential Berbice cricketing stars.
The home team, Rose Hall Town Pepsi, is seeking their third consecutive Under-19 title, led by national Under-19 opener Dominic Rikhi, who will be supported in the batting department by Trevor Thomas, Parmanand Narine, Shawn Pereira, Kelon Sinclair, Hemchand Kalloo, West Indies female player Shemaine Campbelle and the exciting Vidal Crandon. The bowling attack would be led by pacers Jamal Jarvis and George Hughes but the bulk of the bowling is expected to be done by national Under-15 leg spinner Shawn Pereira, off spinners Rikhi, Narine, Lewis and Lenny Sanichar.
Meanwhile, national Under-19 player Harrinarine Chattergoon will lead the talented Albion team and will be joined by the thrilling Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sharaz Ramcharran, Verapen Permaul, Andy Mohan, Shauraz Khan and David Latchya in a strong batting lineup.
The visitors’ bowling consists of an all-spin attack with off spinner Chattergoon and national Under-15 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie being the main bowlers.
They would be strongly backed by off spinner Permaul, the younger brother of West Indies ‘A’ player Veerasammy Permaul, Avinash Wajid, Latchya and Ramcharran who are all capable spinners.
The winning team on Sunday will receive $40,000 and a trophy and the runner-up will receive $30,000.
Other incentives are also up for grabs, including the Man-of-the-Finals award. A representative of the sponsor, Nazimul Fudadin, is expected to meet the teams before the game and afterwards during the presentation ceremony.
