PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Head coach Brian Wickham said that Trinidad & Tobago has enough depth of talent to capture the CARIFTA Championship title for a third straight year.
Wickham observed that his side is slightly short of the maximum of 36 swimmers allowed for the meet, but he has every confidence his side could still topple all challengers at the meet to be staged from April 23 to 26 in Barbados.
“While we do not have the maximum swimmers for the meet, the depth, and the abilities of the team are quite varied,” he said.
“There are significant areas of strength that we can capitalise on to retain the title. The swimmers and officials are also highly motivated and believe strongly that we would be retaining the title.
“Guadeloupe was the closest challenger last year, but we do expect competition from The Bahamas and Martinique.”
T&T made a successful defence of the title in Kingston last year, following their successful run at the Championship one year earlier in Aruba.
This will be Wickham’s first time in charge of the CARIFTA squad, but he has coached national teams to previous regional meet in recent times.
