Enzo Matthews was a step above the rest of the cycling field yesterday when he carted off the top prize in the feature event of the Universal Auto and General Supplies (UA&GS) 11-race cycle programme at the National Park circuit.
Matthews won the feature 35-lap Invitational race in a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 48 minutes (1:22:48) after outsprinting second place finisher, Darren Allen on the final stretch.
Junior cyclist Kurt Larose crossed the finish line in third position, while Berbician Turhan Harris, Junior Niles and another junior, Paul DeNobrega, closed out the top six positions in that order.Bagging prime prizes in the feature race were Mathews with three, Alex Mendes with two and DeNobrega, Niles and Allen with one each.
In other races yesterday, Dellon Moore took the first prize in the juvenile category with Marlon King and Delius Richardson second and third respectively while Dexter Wilson was the upright winner ahead of Kester Croal and Marlon King, who was third.Deeraj Garbarran won the BMX 9-12 race with Rashidi Ceres second and Zyad Baksh, third, while Hamza Eastman left Julio Melville and Nial Kingston trailing in second and third respectively to win the BMX Open race.
Meanwhile, Rawle Leal rode his way to victory in the 12-14 boys and girls race.
In the veteran categories, Kennard Lovell won the under-50 race after out-pedalling Virgil Jones and Linden Blackman, who finished second and third
respectively, while in the over-50 race Lancelot Rose finished ahead of Omar McDougal and Monty Parris.The most seasoned cyclists clashed in the over-60 race, which was won by Maurice Fagundes with Parris second.
