The lifeless body of a 33-year old man was yesterday discovered along the Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road, a short distance from a temple where he was residing.
According to a neighbour, sometime after midnight on Saturday, another neighbour telephoned her and informed that the body of Mahadeo Singh, called ‘Sharukh Khan’, was lying along the parapet close to the Hindu temple located along the eastern carriageway of the public road.
She said that she subsequently visited the scene along with other neighbours where they saw the man lying face down on the parapet close to a culvert, with what appeared to be a wound to the back of the head. She said that earlier in the evening, Singh was seen imbibing at a nearby shop and according to her, the man was an alcoholic.
It was noted that the man lived originally on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) but over the past several months, he was living at Eccles at the temple and would do odd jobs within the community.
The man’s relatives and the police were subsequently informed of his demise and the lawmen visited the scene during the day yesterday and took statements as they investigated his death.
Singh’s body is lying at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour in the city where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
