A body of a 46-year-old Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara man was discovered slumped over a log near a koker on Friday morning.
It is suspected that Moonaf Khan suffered one of his regular epileptic attacks while attempting to take a bath in the Demerara River.
There were no marks of violence to the body but police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination which is scheduled for today.
His sister Bebi said Khan who was an alcoholic would do odd jobs around his community. She said that around 07:30 hrs a neighbour telephoned her to say that he had died and that the police were there. The caller did not go into details.
The woman said that when she arrived at the koker, Khan was slumped over a piece of wood.
She said that he was face down and when police turned him over, his face was covered in mud and there was fresh blood oozing from his nose.
The woman said that the death didn’t look suspicious since “he does catch fits steady”.
She said that she last saw him on Sunday. The woman said that despite his drinking problem, Khan was a very helpful person.
Khan leaves to mourn two sons and a daughter.
