Operations at the recently opened Good Hope/Supenaam stelling on the Essequibo Coast were this afternoon halted after part of the structure collapsed under the weight of a vehicle.
Reports out of the area are that some time around 5 pm today several vehicles, including dozens of trucks, were rerouted to the Adventure stelling.
A resident of Good Hope, who lives a few houses away from the stelling, said that persons had reported earlier yesterday that the structure was beginning to buckle under the weight of vehicles, mainly trucks laden with goods.
Late this afternoon, this newspaper was told, the hinges connecting the drawbridge at the stelling broke off as the MB Sandaka was being loaded.
The vessel remained at the stelling while vehicles were rerouted to Adventure to board the MV Torani.
