A McDoom, East Bank Demerara resident was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $20,000, and his matter adjourned pending the appearance of his wife, whom he is charged with assaulting.
The allegation against Gary Agard is that on April 9, at 55 Middle Street, McDoom, he unlawfully assaulted Ayodella Agard, with intent to cause actual bodily harm. When prompted, the defendant pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charge, which was read by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
When asked by the magistrate about the whereabouts of the Virtual Complainant (VC), the accused explained that she was sick at home. He further said that she has a belly pain and he had made a cup of tea and given it to her.
However, the magistrate wanted to hear what both parties had to say so she adjourn-ed the matter until tomorrow and granted the defendant $20,000 bail. The accused then appealed to the magistrate for a reduction of bail, but this was refused as she stated that she had already deducted $5,000 from the usual $25,000.
