The Plaisance/ Sparendaam/ Goedverwagting Sports Association in conjunction with the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) yesterday commenced a four- day training programme for schoolchildren and individuals within the community.
The programme which ends Thursday runs between 9-1pm daily at the Plaisance/ Sparendaam Community Centre.The programme was formally declared open yesterday by Patrick Triumph, Public Relations Officer of the GTTA.
Also in attendance was Joel Benjamin, president
of the Plaisance/ Sparendaam/ Goedverwagting Sports Association. International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level One coach and national player Natalie Cummings conducted the first day’s session.The programme is a part of the initiative of GTTA president Henry Greene to decentralize the sport throughout Guyana and follows on the heels of a similar programme held over the weekend in Bartica. Sessions have also been held in Linden, Port Mourant and New Amsterdam and according to Triumph, there are moves underway to hold a similar programme in West Demerara.
