The second annual Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/ National Communication Network (NCN) Under-15 Inter-zone limited overs tournament will bowl off tomorrow with two matches at venues in Berbice.
This year’s tournament will involve five teams with Central Corentyne being granted the opportunity to play as a single unit after they had been combined with Upper Corentyne by the BCB as part of their development programme.
Central Corentyne will travel to Scottsburg Cricket Ground in Corriverton to play Upper Corentyne tomorrow while West Berbice will host New Amsterdam/Canje at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground. Lower Corentyne, who drew a bye in the first round, will clash with the winner of the Central Corentyne vs.
Upper Corentyne match in the lone semi-final on Thursday at the Area “H” ground while the winner of tomorrow’s West Berbice and New Amsterdam/Canje match will advance to the final which is scheduled for next week.
Chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Competitions Committee, Carl Moore disclosed that with the addition of the Central Corentyne team, the BCB selectors will have more players to look at before selecting the best possible Berbice Cellink Under-15 team.
The move is also an effort of the BCB to provide players from the Central Corentyne area with a chance to excel and develop to the next level. However, PRO of the BCB and Chairman of the Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster called on parents of all Under-15 players to come out and support their children in the development of the game.
The Berbice Cellink Inter-county team for the upcoming Under-15 Guyana Cricket Board tournament will be selected after the finals of the Inter-zone tournament.
