A Bank of Guyana employee died after her motorcycle collided with a Route 42 minibus on Mandela Avenue early yesterday morning.
Dead is Shondel Samaroo, 34, of Lot 32 Public Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara. The incident occurred around 4 am. The mother of two was returning home when the incident occurred, her brother, Jermaine Samaroo said.
He said that from initial reports, his sister was on her motorcycle when she lost control and collided head-on with the minibus.
However, a police press release issued last evening said that Samaroo and the driver of minibus BLL 9965 were proceeding in the same direction when she somehow lost control and ended up in the path of the bus and was struck down. Samaroo was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Traffic ranks at the break of dawn were at the scene taking measurements and conducting other aspects of the investigation. The spot where the accident occurred was littered with shattered glass
His sister had worked with the Bank of Guyana since leaving high school in 1994, Jermaine said. She is survived by four brothers and her children.
Police said the bus driver is in custody assisting with investigations which are continuing.
