Four persons are in custody after police yesterday intercepted a car at Republic Park, East Bank Demerara with an unlicensed gun and 60 rounds of ammunition.
Police on the West Demerara had initially intercepted a car driven by a Republic Park resident at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara and after searching him they found a gun. However, he had a licence for the gun.
The man had a female friend with him and when his wife arrived an argument ensued. The trio was taken to the Vreed-en-Hoop police station. At the station, the wife told police that she had heard her husband telling someone over the phone to remove another gun from the home.
Police acted quickly on the tip and went to Republic Park. At the entrance to the housing development, one of the man’s cars was seen being driven out by the wife of one of his employees.
The police stopped the car and searched it and the gun, a .45 automatic pistol with 60 matching rounds, was found wrapped in a green towel in the truck. The woman was taken into custody.
