(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – With the government’s new housing programmes, free houses will not be made available anymore. Everyone who meets the criteria to be eligible for public housing must make a contribution, no matter how small. Financing, perhaps even 100%, will be available through a building and loan association that is yet to be founded. This was recently stated at the installation of the working group Restructuring Housing Sector. The management team assisting this working group will do the preparatory work with regard to regulations and amendments to existing legislation. “The preparations are already ongoing; some draft bills have been made and at the behest of the Finance Ministry, we have also held talks with financial institutions for the creation of flexible financing options, so everyone can build a house”, says Mark Rommy, general manager of the management team.
