Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai and a team hosted a two-day meeting in several Region Nine communities recently to address land issues.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Sukhai was accompanied by Permanent Secretary at the ministry Collin Croal and officials of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission. The team met Sawariwau, Katoonarib and Rupunau villagers in the South Central and Deep South Rupununi.
Sawariwau and Katoonarib villages are among those slated for demarcation and titling this year, GINA said. These two villages were able to resolve a long-standing land issue that had stalled the process. The village councils had engaged consultants and residents to resolve the issue.
