Experienced shooter Hemant Narine made a winning return to competition while female competitors made their presence felt at the Smallbore .22 Precision Pistol competition which took place at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) ranges at Eve Leary Saturday.
Nineteen shooters took part in the competition and four females were among the prize winners.
Competing in the senior category, Narine, who returned to competition after a few years’ hiatus from the sport, placed first with 188 points at the 10 and 15 metres ranges.
In second position was Policewoman Candacy Frank who amassed 182 points in an impressive display.
Third position went to Gordon Richards who just returned from in international competition in Trinidad and Tobago. He recorded 178 points.
Female shooters dominated the Novices competition with Policewoman Edol Castello coming out on top with 190 points at the five and seven metres distances.
Second place went to Vidushi Persaud with 189 points while Sarah Piggott was third with 184 points.
Officials of the GNRA said that they are extremely happy to see an increase in female participation and this is a very positive development for the sport.
The competition was organized by the Smallbore section of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) and it was its third major event for 2011.
