The National Parks Commission will be charging a “nominal fee” for patrons who wish to take their vehicles – buses, cars, motorcycles – into the Botanic Gardens and the National Park on Easter Monday.
The Parks Commission, according to a Government Information Agency (GINA) release, said that the money collected will be used to offset expenses incurred in cleaning the gardens of the usually heavy garbage and debris left after the kite-flying and picnicking activities. However, the release did not indicate what would be the “nominal fee.”
The Parks Commission said that garbage bags would be distributed free of cost with the view that they will be collected periodically during that day to ease the clean-up exercise, GINA stated.
Patrons will utilize the western entrance on Vlissengen Road to access the gardens.
Similar fees will be charged at the National Park by the duly authorised franchisee. Patrons will use the Carifesta Avenue gate to gain access and exit at the Albert Street gate.
Meanwhile, the Parks Commission said that admission to Joe Vieira Park in Region Three will be free between 6:00AM and 6:00PM. And vending of beverages is strictly prohibited except by the duly authorised franchisee, the release added.
