Although the Police Ladies team cannot win the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Brainstreet Under-15 championships, they delivered the soundest warning to the rest of the teams when they whipped Queen’s College at the Muslim Youth Organisation Ground yesterday.
The Ladies, who were included in the competition to test their skills level, defeated the QC Boys by 168 runs after they had scored 248 all out from 46 overs. The medium bowling of Onica Wallerson (3-7) and Akaze Thompson (2-19), along with the spin bowling Haseema Mohammed (2-15), conspired to restrict QC to 82, from 19 overs, chasing 249.
QC’s highest scores came from Pernell Christie, who made 20, and Omar Abdelbari (13). No other batsman reached 10. When the Police Ladies won the toss and batted they piled on 248 with West Indies player June Ogle-Thomas making 53. She got valuable support from Wallerson (47), Kavita Yadram (40) and Abena Parker (32).
Spinner Vickram Ramkissoon was the top bowler with 3-35 while Eion Beaton and Stephen Andrews complimented with 2-29 (8) and 2-65 (9) respectively.
Over at the Queenstown, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) A Team administered a 258-run beating on St. Stanislaus College. Batting first after losing the toss, DCC scored 304-8 declared from 52.4 overs with Tevin Imlach contributing 60.
Imlach also shared in a 76-run opening partnership with Khemraj Rupee (30) while Kwesi Lewis and Rudy Vandermeer also scored 30. Julio Baksh was the bright spot in the bowling with 5-48 (10), bowling his off spin; Dequan Williams, who later returned with the bat to top score with 18, snared 2-46 (11) and Marvin Scott took 1-13.
In St. Stanislaus’ turn at the crease their batsmen were incapable of putting together any partnership to threaten the DCC total. Apart from 18 from Lewis the highest scores off the bat were three from Shemar Griffith and two from Julio Baksh; 20 extras added significantly to their score.
DCC bowler Michael Deonarine was the most miserly with 3-2 (2) while Allistair Field was equally economical with 3-2 (5) while they got support from Carlton Jacques who had 2-6 from his four overs.
DCC’s B Team also scored an easy win over Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC). MSC, batting first, made 110 all out from 29.2 overs. T. Campbell score d 25, S. Moseley, 18, and D. Nurse, 12, as medium pacer Travis Brandis ripped through with 4-28 (6); Akash Samuels had 3-37 (7) and Travis Persaud (1-10) and Xaviee Smith (1-16) took one wicket apiece.
In reply DCC B posted 111-5 from 34 overs with Persaud and Kimal Savoury scoring 17 and Sherwin knocking 13.
