Police ranks on Tuesday discovered and destroyed a cannabis farm at Millie’s Hide Out, Linden Soesdyke Highway with some 2,000 plants most of which were around seven feet high. An arrest is yet to be made.
Divisional Commander David Ramnarine told Stabroek News yesterday that ranks travelled to the location which is located 13 miles into the backlands following a ‘tip off”. He explained that when the ranks arrived after commencing their journey around 7 am they found a three-acre farm. He said that they also found a camp with some dry rations and clothing which suggested that persons were recently there.
The ranks, Ramnarine said also found 240 kilogrammes of dried cannabis.
At the time the law enforcement officials from E and F Division, the Tactical Services Unit, CID Headquarters and A Division descended on the farm, no one was there.
Ramnarine told Stabroek News that such eradication exercises are part of the police’s continuing efforts to fight against cannabis planting. He said that the information so far suggests that there are a lot of cannabis fields in the backlands, noting that such areas are very difficult to patrol.
The commander praised the ranks for their efforts. “I want to acknowledge the good work done by the policemen,” he stressed.
