A man was killed yesterday when the wheels of a vehicle he was travelling in crushed his legs while on the Puruni trail, Middle Mazaruni.
Divisional Commander of Police David Ramnarine told this newspaper that he is yet to receive information about the man’s identity but based on the initial reports the man was involved in a “fatal incident”.
Assistant Commissioner Ramnarine explained that five vehicles were travelling along the trail when the one that the man was in got stuck.
On seeing another vehicle proceeding towards them with some speed, the man Ramnarine said, decided to “take evasive action by jumping out of the vehicle he was in”.
However his legs were crushed by the vehicle he was in. It is unclear how this happened but from all appearances the speeding vehicle might have crashed into the back of the other.
According to Ramnarine, the man died while efforts were being made to get him medical attention.
