Sukhdai Ramkilaum who was found murdered in her home was buried yesterday even as the police continue their search for the perpetrator/s of this gruesome crime.
Stabroek News was told that police are investigating all angles but have so far been unable to identify a suspect or make an arrest. It is still unclear if any valuables were taken from the 68-year-old woman’s ransacked Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara home.
A post-mortem examination performed on Wednesday by Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that Ramkilaum died as a result of an incised wound to the neck.
A relative told this newspaper yesterday that they were forced to bury her remains quickly since they were told that decay was beginning to set in.
The pensioner was on Tuesday around 18:00 hours found by police crouched in a pool of blood in the bedroom of her house where she had been living alone for more than a decade. She was clad only in a yellow t-shirt.
Relatives living next door became suspicious after not hearing from the woman for two days. Ramkilaum’s niece-in-law decided to call out for her and when she got no response she went close to the fence separating the two properties.
It was then that she noticed blood dripping from the flooring of the house. Her husband arrived at that moment and on seeing the blood immediately contacted the police.
Residents said that they heard nothing strange prior to the discovery.
Ramkilaum was last seen alive around noon on Monday.
Police investigations are continuing.
