A pastry vendor was on Tuesday placed on $35,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton accused of stealing a woman’s gold chain.
The allegation against Esau John is that on April 17, at Georgetown, he stole from the person of Kristie Fernandes one gold chain, valued at $70,000. He was not required to plead to the charge. After hearing all that was to be heard, the magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of $35,000 and adjourned the matter until May 30.
Hamo Alli also on Tuesday appeared before the magistrate and was remanded to prison on a charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on April 16, at Hill Street, Albouystown, he being armed with a knife robbed Jaitoon Hamad of two gold bangles and a pair of earrings, valued at $55,000.
At the prosecution’s request, the accused was remanded to prison and his matter adjourned until May 30.
