The St Kitts Netball Association (SKNA) has expressed condolences to the Guyana Netball Association as they mourn the passing of their recently-appointed secretary and former vice-president Shondel Samaroo, whose life was abruptly cut short on Monday last as a result of a vehicular accident.
In an e-mail directed to the GNA, the president of the SKNA, Juliet Liburd, expressed condolences to the entire netball fraternity, particularly the members of the national girls under-16 team, with whom Samaroo had spent the better part of her last days.
It was only the Sunday before she died that Samaroo had returned from St. Kitts, where she had accompanied the national girls under-16 team. The team had travelled to St. Kitts to participate in the Caribbean Netball Association (CNA) Jean Pierre Under-16 Championships.
Liburd spoke of how warmhearted she found Samaroo to be for the brief period that she had known her.
“On behalf of the St. Kitts Netball Association, I extend condolences to… the entire Guyana Netball Association, especially to those U-16 girls whom she spent her last days with. I know it is very hard for you, because when we got the news here in St. Kitts, we were shocked. Shondel spent almost two hours in my home on Sunday, the short time I have been in her company, I find her to be very warmhearted. Cheer up, our prayers are with you always. May her soul rest in peace,” the email read.
Meanwhile, according to reports Samaroo is scheduled to be laid to rest on Wednesday, while the GNA has scheduled a wake for Monday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. The wake is expected to feature a full programme of tributes to Samaroo and the work she has done for netball.
The wake will begin from 21:00 hrs and is expected to last approximately one hour.
