Dear Editor,
Allow me to use your column to alert GPL and the public of the low-hanging electrical wires directly outside my office in Quamina St, the third building from the corner of Main St.
A container truck going well above the speed limit for a vehicle of that size and in a road not built for one, snagged the said wires yesterday. I was unable to get through on the GPL emergency number to inform them as the phone kept ringing out.
One does not need a great deal of imagination to think of a Fire Engine rushing to an emergency and the avoidable consequences.
Perhaps the police should start preventing vehicles of a certain size from using certain smaller roads not equipped for such weight?
Maybe start with rating the roads and then inform the Public what vehicles are allowed on them as I have noticed an increase in over-sized vehicles trying to avoid the Traffic Lights on the Major-roads, presumably?
Yours faithfully,
Dr Dionne Fries
