Subscribers to GT&T’s 256 DSL internet service in the areas that the company’s high-speed E-magine service has not yet been launched, will now benefit from a reduction in rates.
GT&T’s CEO Yog Mahadeo told this newspaper yesterday the subscribers in the “non-Emagine areas” will now be charged $7,000 monthly for the 256 DSL service. Previously these customers were charged $9,980 for the service. The price reduction, Mahadeo said, has come after customers began petitioning the company for a decrease. The new rates will take effect from May 1, this newspaper understands.
The current E-magine zone covers Georgetown and some areas along the lower East Coast and East Bank of Demerara. Mahadeo explained that following the rolling out of the company’s E-magine services last year in these areas, GT&T offered the 256 DSL service as “DSL Light” at a price of $5,000, while it offered DSL Standard for $9,980.
Mahadeo explained that the new intervention by the company is temporary until E-magine is rolled out in these areas. According to him, the roll out process has been stalled since the company is awaiting permission from the government.
