An unidentified man suffered head injuries after he was struck by a Toyota Raum PLL 6320 at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice around 10:30 am yesterday.
The man who appears to be in his 20s was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital and immediately transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state.
The driver who hails from Mahaicony has been taken into custody and the car has been impounded.
Reports are that the man joined a minibus in the vicinity of Cotton Tree and when he reached his destination he reportedly tried to cross the road without looking and he was struck.
The car was heading in the direction of New Amsterdam at a fast rate while the bus had stopped on the southern side of the road in the opposite direction, according to police. They said that a large crowd gathered at the scene but no one recognized the man.
Police are seeking assistance as they try to ascertain the identity of the man who is of East Indian ancestry. He was dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt and black boots.
They said too that the man is slim built and brown in complexion. They appealed to persons who “miss a relative to contact the Fort Wellington Station.”
