An auto dealer was killed this morning by two gunmen who attacked him at the head of the street he lived in.
Bedi Ramjeiwan, 38, of 5 Industry, Crown Dam passed away while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He received a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest.
At around 10 am, Ramjeiwan’s car was blocked by two unmasked bandits as he turned into his street. The men attacked Ramjeiwan assaulting him with a helmet from their scooter. During the confrontation, the car rolled into a nearby drain. After robbing Ramjeiwan, the men shot him once and made good their escape, an eyewitness stated.
Ramjeiwan was a father of two young children. His wife and children are said to be overseas on vacation. It is believed that the businessman was trailed from the bank by the robbers.
Police this afternoon issued the following release.
“The police are investigating a murder that occurred at about 1100h. today at Crown Dam, Industry, ECD, where businessman Dedie Ramjewan, 38 years, was fatally shot during an attack by two men on a motor cycle.
“Investigations have revealed that Dedie Ramjewan was returning home in his motor vehicle PLL 1817 after transacting business at a bank in the city, when he was confronted by the two men along Crown Dam, Industry.
“During the process Ramjewan was beaten about his head with a motor cycle helmet and shot to his chest. He later succumbed at the GPHC.
“At the time of this press release it has not yet been ascertained if anything was taken away from the victim’s vehicle by the perpetrators.
“A man has been arrested and a motor cycle seized by the police as the investigations continue.”
