Guyana is set to participate in an inaugural Inter-Guiana Cultural (IGC) Festival in August along with Suriname and French Guiana.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the festival will be held within the context of the Inter-Guiana Cooperation as exemplified by the Inter-Guiana Games. The three countries signed a MoU over the past weekend when senior functionaries deliberated in Paramaribo, Suriname. Director of Culture, Dr James Rose and Special Projects Officer at the Culture Ministry, Lennox Canterbury represented Guyana at the meeting.
The “Mini-Carifesta type cultural event” will feature six disciplines: visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, fashion art, culinary and craftworks. Lectures, master classes and workshops will also be integral to the IGC Festival. The ministers of French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana will meet in Paramaribo to sign a joint declaration during the launch of the OAS Year of Culture next month.
The festival will be held from August 26-28.
