Man jailed for stealing stepmom’s household items

A man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for stealing electronics and household items from his stepmother.

Lancedale Robert of  79 Alexander Village, East Bank Demerara,  stole from the home of Juanita Mars, his stepmother, electronics and household items valued at $275,000.

In stating the facts of the case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting,  said that the 31-year-old accused is the son of the virtual complainant’s reputed husband and the two reside at the same address.

On April 8, Mars retired to bed but was later awakened  by a noise. Upon checking, she observed the accused packing items into a taxi and she raised an alarm.

The matter was reported to the police and the accused was subsequently arrested and during a confrontation between him and the virtual complainant, he admitted stealing the articles. He was later charged for the offence.

Some of the articles have since been recovered.

The man apologized to his stepmother before the court and said “if I had the chance I woulda pay she back for the things them.”
