ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – West Indies selectors have named an unchanged 13-man squad for tomorrow’s third One-Day International against Pakistan, surprisingly keeping faith with the new look unit which lost the doubleheader in St Lucia last week.
Following the defeats at the Beausejour Cricket Ground on Thursday and Saturday respectively, speculation was rife the regional selectors would have tampered with the squad in an effort to change their fortunes.
However, the new look side has remained in tact with captain Darren Sammy at the helm for the first of the two matches at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The side is without former captain and talismanic opener Chris Gayle, the big-hitting Kieron Pollard and fast bowler Jerome Taylor all of whom are campaigning in the cash-rich Indian Premier League, while Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul have been overlooked.
With the bowling badly lacking, no room has been found for Barbados pacer Fidel Edwards or left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn.
West Indies lost the opening ODI by eight wickets and went down by seven wickets in the second.
Their batsmen have struggled, putting up scores of 221 and 220 while rookie leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has taken the four Pakistani wickets to fall in the series.
SQUAD – Darren Sammy (captain), Dwayne Bravo (Vice Captain), Carlton Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Kirk Edwards, Anthony Martin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith.
