Prince Charming won another feature event when the Port Mourant Turf Club held its annual Easter Sunday horse race meet at the club’s track.
Additionally there were other upsets on a day blessed with brilliant sunshine. The feature C class race, which saw the winner taking away $500,000, compliments of Banks DIH, and the Rommel Jagroop Construction trophy, saw Prince Charming picking up the pace from behind. Miss Orientate, Marathon Man, The Message and Little Pani had earlier set the pace into the first turn and unto the backstretch.
Prince Charming, ridden by Jamaican Andron Findley, was carefully being guided to make its move in the 1700m race. When the horses hit the homestretch Prince Charming was in the lead with Marathon Man trying to catch up. Marathon Man came in second while Pinch the Cash came in third and Miss Orientate placed fourth; the Message fell to fifth.
Better than Gold of the Jagdeo Stables was the best of the three-year-olds when he snatched $300,000 and the Norman Singh Memorial Trophy. After some initial challenge from the other horses, jockey Rupert Ramnauth changed gear to ensure the horse won by a wide margin. Work Force worked its way to second place while Irish Girl and Sabrina’s Joy were third and fourth respectively.
The D class race saw Marathon Man of the Jumbo Jet Stables and Mark Vasssey in the stirrups, sprinting away from the rest of the field and taking the top prize of $300,000 and trophy. Zelik came through for second ahead of Vaunted, Face the Music and Night Crescendo.
There was another win for the Jumbo Jet Stables in the F class event when Home Bush Baby came from behind. Ridden by Ross the animal took over down the home stretch from stable mate Appealing Harvest to win the $240,000 first prize and trophy ahead of King Maker. Appealing Harvest came in third with Harry’s Dream fourth.
The Jumbo Jet Stables collected its third win of the day with Got to Go ridden by Ross. Bob’s Fortune was second as they held off the field for the $160,000 winner’s money and the Arch Way Snackette trophy. Harry Dream and Pegasus Rising were third and fourth respectively.
In the I class Digicel-sponsored event Dream Girl, ridden by Ross out of the Singh and Habibulla Stables was the victor ahead of The Gump, Royal Time and Savion. The win was worth $140,000.
The I-3 race which was also sponsored by Digicel was won by Princess Renuka from Nobody Knows, Speed Vision and Natural Mystic.
At the presentation ceremony, Ross copped the champion jockey crown and Raj Ramroop the top trainer award. Over 65 horses entered the starting gates and prize monies amounted close to $4M.
