The man who was struck down at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice around 10:30 am on Easter Monday succumbed to his injuries and was identified the following day as Sukhnandan Ragunandan, 25.
He suffered injuries to his head and was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state and was immediately transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Persons who had gathered at the scene did not recognize Ragunandan, of Bath New Scheme because he only moved to the area from Black Bush Polder one year ago.
His wife, Narita Mohan said he left home around 10 am to visit a friend and she became worried after she did not hear from him.
She contacted his parents as well as the friend he was going to visit but they did not know of his whereabouts.
They also called the hospital and police station during their search but staff informed them that they had taken over the new shifts and did not know anything about the man.
The following morning after learning of the accident, his father, Satrohan Suhknanand visited the Fort Wellington Station with his identification card.
Police confirmed that he was involved in the accident and relatives left for the GPH where they learnt of his death.
Reports are that the man joined a minibus close to his home and when he reached his destination he reportedly tried to cross the road without looking when he was struck.
The car was heading in the direction of New Amsterdam at a fast rate while the bus had stopped on the southern side of the road in the opposite direction, according to police.
Relatives said it seemed as though Ragunandan had already crossed the road because the Toyota Raum PLL 6320 that struck him was damaged on the left side.
His wife said she and her one-year-old son were supposed to go with him to visit the friend as well but she changed her mind.
