PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Players union WIPA has joined in the praise for the West Indies Under-19s following their successful tour of Dubai.
The Young Windies side, led by prolific opener Kraigg Brathwaite, beat Australia Under-19s 2-1 in the limited overs series before following up with a handsome four-wicket win in the three-day “Test” which ended Tuesday.
WIPA chief executive Dinanath Ramnarine said he was “pleased with the high level of skill, maturity and responsiveness to pressure”, as the side came from a game down in the one-day series to win.
“To travel to Dubai, lose the first game, and then come back to defeat Australia in all of the remaining matches – winning the ODI series 2-1 and the single “Test” match is truly an outstanding performance,” Ramnarine said.
“Particularly pleasing was the response in the three-day game when the boys replied to a big first innings score by posting a massive 400-plus and then restricted the Aussies to 228 in their second innings and chased down the winning target for the loss of six wickets.”
In the wake of the team’s success, WIPA has urged the West Indies Cricket Board to continue to expand their youth programme and has pledged their support in the process.
