Keirre Henry was outstanding in the quarterfinal of the inaugural Ricks & Sari Agro Industries Under-13, Two Innings Cricket Competition organized by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) at the Blairmont Sports Ground, Berbice.
According to a press release, while the competition recently resumed after a suspension due to rain, Tucber Park became the first team to clinch a semi-final berth when they defeated Achievers by seven wickets after conceding first innings honours in their quarter-final encounter.
Achievers won the toss and elected to bat first and were given a start of 26 from their openers Karean Mentore and Osbert Cain who fell to medium pacer Renaldo Adams for 3
Mentore and Jamal Alfred added another 22 before Adams picked up three consecutive wickets, including Mentore’s for 28 to see them slip from 48 for 1 to 59 for 4.
Keirre Henry then snapped up the next five wickets to leave them 90 all out in their first innings after a brief recovery by Achievers.
Tucber Park in their reply quickly slipped to 20 for 4 after an outstanding spell of pace bowling by Grisean Grant who picked up three wickets. Michael Niamatali and Jerome Henry then put together a patient partnership of 35 runs for the 5th wicket before leg spinner Joseph Nicholson picked up 5 quick wickets to scuttle Tucber Park for 65 in their first innings with Niamatali top scoring with 35.
With a first innings lead of 25 runs, Achievers began their second innings probably hoping to bat Tucber Park out of the game but the latter all spin attack produced another gripping spell from Henry who finished with 5 for 28 off 9 overs, helping to bowl out Achievers for 65.
Jamal Alfred top scored with 23 and Darius Nedd 18. Henry was well supported in the bowling department with left arm spinner, Michael Niamatali taking 3 for 5 and Gavin Moriah Jnr. 2 for 22, the release noted.
With 91 set as Tucber Park’s target to win in the last mandatory hour and 10 minutes, they took the positive approach but slipped to 40 for 3. It took Enoch Carmichael’s delightful knock of 43 not out in partnership with Henry 14 not out to see Tucber Park home at 91 for 3 with 3 of the mandatory overs to spare. Grant took 2 for 8 for the Achievers.
