Bedi Ramjeiwan died of shock and haemorrhaging due to a gunshot wound, a post-mortem examination (PME) has revealed.
Meanwhile, Commander of ‘C’ Division George Primo told this newspaper that officers from his division have been working with officers from Georgetown and the Criminal Investigations Department to investigate the matter. Efforts to contact Crime Chief Seelall Persaud were futile and Ramjeiwan’s family was not aware of any new information regarding the investigation.
Meanwhile, Minister of Human Services Priya Manickchand, a relative of the Industry auto dealer, pointed out that the PME revealed that Ramjeiwan had died as a result of the gunshot injury, with antecedent causes being shock and haemorrhaging.
Meanwhile, Ramjeiwan’s mother, in brief comments to this newspaper, stated that her son was a “good, honest, responsible person.” The youngest of three siblings, the woman noted that her son had lived with her his entire life. Ramjeiwan’s wife and children are expected back in the country today. They were overseas on vacation this newspaper learnt. His funeral is scheduled for next week.
At about 11am on Wednesday, Ramjeiwan, 38, was returning home in his car when he was confronted by two men along Crown Dam, Industry, on the East Coast Demerara. He was beaten about his head with a motorcycle helmet and shot to his chest.
Two persons have since been held.
An eyewitness account of the incident revealed that Ramjeiwan was severely beaten to the head before being shot to the left side chest at close range.
The men then escaped on scooter with a “dark green bag,” believed to have contained money.
Ramjeiwan had visited a bank earlier on the day of his murder. It is believed that he was trailed from the bank to his home. The robbers also took jewellery that Ramjeiwan was wearing at the time.
