Dear Editor,
I have read critiques of the current pitches available in the West Indies. It is said that our batting does not get enough variety of surface to develop competitively with those of other established cricket playing nations. Unfortunately therefore, our bowlers are not given enough credit for getting batsmen out.
The Guyanese spin twins of Devindra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul have proven time and again in recent history that they can consistently demolish batting sides. So far only Bishoo has been selected for the WI, with good results. From what I have seen, Permaul is just as good, and complements Bishoo’s leg-spin with his off-spin.
I always seem to get the impression since the Chetram Singh cricket administration that Guyanese representatives on the WICB and selection panel are not as proactive in advancing our talented cricketers in the face of the more loudly and rapidly spoken reps from the Islands. So please Mr. Butts, get Permaul too for the West Indies. If we can’t out-bat the opposition, let us genuinely try to bowl them out.
Yours faithfully,
Alfred Bhulai
