Former national junior player Conan Belle showed that he has lost none of his skill when he defeated Warren Hackshaw in the 21 years and under final recently at the Bartica Community Centre.
The tournament was a follow up to a training stint one of several being conducted by the Guyana TableTennis Association countrywide.
Belle defeated Hackshaw, another former national junior players 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 while twins Brad and Brandon Belle were joint third.
Brandon Belle defeated Raynor Anderson 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 to win the coveted Open singles while third place went to Hackshaw who defeated Gavin Morris 11-5, 11-5, 11-8.
The 25-years and under final was won by Stephen Belle who defeated Romain Downer 11-3,11-2, 12-10 while third place went to Morris who defeated Troy Gravesande 11-5, 11-6, 12-10.
The 15-years-and-under division was won by Shaquille Hopkinson who defeated Kelvin Joseph 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8.
Third place went to Lorenzo Jacobis who defeated Victoria Wong (lone female in this category) 11-2, 11-3, 11-7.
Trophies were donated by Troy Simon, Williams Grocery, Zen’s Plaza and Hopkinson Mining. And incentives came from Rat’s Mining (Raymond Khan) $50,000, Harold Hopkinson $20,000, and Deno Investment $10,000.
Over 30 entries were received by the GTTA, a release from the GTTA stated.
Trophies, incentives and rackets were available for the top three finishers and other outstanding performers in the respective categories
During the tournament a Bartica table tennis steering committee was formed. The committee comprises Chairman- Hilbert Knights, Secretary-Angel DeFrance, and Treasurer- Richford Innis.
The committee members are Gordon Bradford, Shawn Hopkinson, Kenneth Williams, Judith Williams Stephon Belle, Romain Downer and Garfield Morris.
The tournament attracted the presence of GTTA President, Police Commissioner Henry Greene, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, national female overseas-based player, Trenace Lowe and Sonia Noel, Model Designer.
