The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has imported a few of the famous faces from the popular Indian singing show, SAREGAMAPA for a two-day celebration at the Guyana National Stadium this weekend as part of the Arrival Day observances.
ZEETV SAREGAMAPA artiste Kamal Khan who recently won the competition, and finalists, Abhilasha Chellam and Bishakh Jyoti will join seven other musicians from India here for the local shows.
The Dharmic Sabha is promoting the event as family-centred and in a press release issued this week, it pointed to other appearances from renowned Trinidadian singer and musician, Indar Kanhai.
Kanhai will be accompanied by the members of his Trishul Orchestra. Indar has recorded CDs with playback singers like Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Trinida-dian singer Ravi B, the release said, noting that he has a voice as beautiful as Sanu and that his style is appealing and entertaining on stage.
Guyanese artistes including singers Rekha, Suchitra Rampersaud, Mona, Chevalia and the Dharmic Nritya Sangh will also perform. Music will be provided by the Trishul Orchestra of Trinidad and Guyana’s Caribbean Hotshots Band.
Patrons would also have an opportunity to shop saris, kurtas, jewellery, murtis and other similar items, the release said, adding a variety of chokhas, curries, rotis, potato balls, samosas, and other dishes will be in abundance. Additionally, ladies can have intricate patterns of Mehendi applied on their hands.
Tickets are currently on sale for the shows.
