A Linden resident accused of trafficking in 30 grammes of cannabis was on Friday remanded to prison after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Mark Bullen, a miner of One Mile Squatting Area; Linden is that on April 27 at Linden, he had in his possession 30 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The man denied the charge when it was read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
In presenting the prosecution’s facts of the case, police corporal Venetta Pindar told the court that on the day in question at about 23:30 hrs, ranks acting on a report of simple larceny committed by the said defendant went to Greenheart Street, McKenzie, Linden.
Pindar said that when confronted by the lawmen, the accused threw a transparent bag containing 18 Ziploc bags with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems onto the ground believed to be cannabis.
The court then heard that the accused along with the items were taken to the police station where the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence. Pindar said that the accused was later told of the allegation and was arrested and charged.
The prosecution made a successful request for the accused to be remanded to prison. His matter was transferred to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court for May 3
