Jermaine Fletcher recorded a hat-trick for Georgetown as they catapulted to victory against Bartica when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Inter Association Under-17 football tournament continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground yesterday afternoon.
Bartica opened the match up looking like the more organized side while the home side tried valiantly to get its act together.
Antonio Dos Santos drew first blood for Bartica as early as the 10th minute from a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
However’ when George-town began getting some plays organized, they quickly began to threaten the Bartica goalkeeper more often than not.
Georgetown’s forward Alpha McPhoy was a constant bother to the opposition because the defense could hardly keep up with his speed and soon pulled one back in the 29th minute when he took on the goalkeeper with a long shot at the top of the 18-yard box and scored.
As the match progressed, Fletcher came into play with his first goal in the 33rd minute.
After the break Fletcher picked up where he left off and scored in the 56th then in the 79th minutes to complete his hat-trick.
Bartica had looked like they could have gotten their game back together when Alex Thompson made it a one possession game in the 65th minute but once Fletcher got going they game kept running further and further away.
Meanwhile Upper Demerara Football Club duly completed a 2-0 win over West Demerara on Saturday in another match of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Under-17 Inter Association competition.
The match was played at the Christianburg ground.
Striker Kevin Cadogan scored in the 56th minute and 10 minutes later Devon Tudor sealed the issue. At half time the score was deadlocked 0-0.
