Pele Football Club downed Fruta Conquerors 2-1 in extra time in the final of the Pele Football Club under 17 knockout tournament held at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground Wednesday evening from 18:00hrs.
Conquerors, with their high octane play, netted an early goal to send Pele trailing 0-1.
They managed to keep their hosts at bay until the final first half whistle.
When play resumed after the break Pele took advantage of their opponents lackluster play and quickly equalized with a goal from Keson Dey to make the score 1-1. The two teams then battled to the full time whistle still locked on 1-1.
During the gruelling period of extra time which tested the player’s fitness level, captain of the Pele team, Korwin Benjamin stepped up his play when he netted a goal for his club that eventually sealed the deal for Pele.
Georgetown Football Club (GFC) got a walk over to earn the third place spot after Sunburst Camptown abandoned the game to attend a fun day that their club hosted on the same day.
