Dear Editor,
Is this year special? I ask the question as so many things have happened that one wonders as we analyze the events.
It started with a revolution in Tunisia, which spread to Egypt, Yemen, and a few other parts of the Arab world including Libya and Syria which are the centre of attention at the moment.
Then as if we had enough, it was an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis in Japan with dire consequences of death and economic hardship. Next and only last week we were immersed with the royal wedding. And in our jubilance came breaking news last evening that the world’s most wanted man Osama bin Laden had been found and killed after a well planned intelligence operation led by the crack unit Navy Seals of the U.S.A. For Obama and the American people it was welcome news for the President after being pursued by certain sections for proof of his birth certificate which he delivered. Today the same President has delivered Osama bin Laden and though it will not bring back the thousands of lives lost in the 9/11 Word Trade Centre destruction and the Pentagon it will be a mixture of jubilation and cautious optimism.
What legacy has this evil man Osama bin Laden left who preached a radical doctrine of terrorism which affected innocent persons? He will be remembered with another evil person Adolph Hitler who attempted to conquer the world with destruction against humankind.
We who belong to religious faiths must continue to preach peace and love for each other recognizing that we are different in many ways but the message should embrace us all. “He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.”
Yours faithfully,
