Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes cricket team scored a seven-wicket triumph over Albion to claim their second successive under-15 title of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/TENELEC INC inter-club limited overs competition at the Albion Sports Club ground last Thursday.
According to a press release, Albion,
batting first after winning the toss, was pegged back by controlled bowling from the visitors as they struggled to 12 for 1 after 11 overs.
A 56-run partnership between Rohan Harripersaud 28 and Shauraz Ramcharran 36 steadied the innings for Albion but their dismissals along with that of
Gudakesh Motie saw Albion being dismissed for 114 off their allotted 50 overs.
Bowling for Rose Hall Town, Shawn Perreira bagged 3-25 while Daniel Lewis, off spinner Devin Baldeo and Parmanand Narine each took a wicket.
In reply, Rose Hall Town was given a solid but slow opening partnership of 25 in 14 overs by Nicholas Cameron and Brandon Prashad against Albion’s all spin bowling attack.
Prashad departed on the stroke of lunch, caught behind for 13 off leg spinner Avinash Wajib but thereafter, Cameron and Berbice under-15 all rounder, Devin Baldeo, batted solidly to add 66 for the second wicket.
Rose Hall Town were 91 for 2 in the 32nd over before Wajib dismissed Baldeo for a solid 25.
Cameron made an attractive 40 which contained four boundaries before he was caught at mid off.
Skipper Perreira and his national Under-15 counterpart Parmanand Narine then took Rose Hall Town to victory with an unbroken 16-run stand as they ended on 115 for 3 in 40.2 overs.
Narine was unbeaten on 14 and Pereira on 5.
Leg spinner Wajib was the only wicket taker for the home team with 3 for 25 from eight overs.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Cameron was named Man-of-the-Final for his 40 runs and three stumpings.
President of the BCB, Keith Foster, at the presentation ceremony, hailed the tournament as a great success and expressed great pleasure at the number of talent available in the Ancient County at the junior level.
Second Vice President, Mark Lyte then expressed gratitude to Bobby Deonarine of Tenelec Inc based in Maryland, United States of America for his continued sponsorship of Berbice cricket and stated that Tenelec Inc was playing a major role in the rapid development of the sport in the Ancient County.
Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes received $50 000 and a trophy; Albion $25 000.00 and Cameron $5 000 and a trophy for his Man-of-the-Final performance.
