The Mayor and City Council is in mourning after the passing of Councillor Jean Smith on Sunday.
In a press release, the Council said Smith has served as a councillor since 1994. She became an active member of the PNCR and was a candidate for the municipal elections in 1994. This “daughter of the soil,” it further said, was a dedicated and committed Councillor and trade unionist who ardently represented the cause of employees. It said her death is a great loss to the municipality.
The Council extended condolences to her children and relatives.
