The relatives of dredge owner Angold Bobbington Cox, who was fatally shot during a confrontation with police, were up to yesterday evening unable to view his body, which is being stored at Lyken’s Funeral Parlour in the city.
Cox, called Bob, 54, was shot and killed in his 164 ‘A’ Eccles, East Bank Demerara home on Monday morning by policemen, after he reportedly stabbed a rank and assaulted another while resisting arrest.
Cox’s stepson told this newspaper that his mother was told that she had to first return to Providence Police Station and fill out the necessary documents before she would be able to view the body. He said that they visited the Providence Station at 9:00am and were told to return at 1:00pm, and when they did, they were told to wait until 3:00pm. However, when 3:00pm came, they were told to return today. The post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today.
When asked if they had heard any update from the police into the matter, the deceased’s niece, Patricia Evans, said that they heard nothing from the police as to why her uncle was killed or about whether anyone will be charged.
Meanwhile, according to a senior police officer, investigations are still continuing into the matter.
