Joe Singh worried over gold smuggling

Up to this week, gold declarations totalled 106,000 ounces—about a third of the target this year—but Chair-man of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Board of Directors Major General (rtd) Joe Singh expressed worry that some of the production is being smuggled out of the country.

Victories boost Windies confidence

Though West Indies lost the Digicel One Day International Series against Pakistan 2-3, they finished on a winning note, which according to captain of the side Darren Sammy is a boost of confidence for them heading into the Test Series.

Suriname’s maritime expansion not alarming

Suriname’s request to expand its maritime territory, which recently won approval, is not worrying, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkette, who noted that they are required to sit down with Guyana and conclude an agreement delimiting the maritime boundary.

GSKC stages successful grading exercises

The Guyana Shotokan Karate Club (GSKC), a member of the International Karate Diagaku (IKD) and an affiliate of the Guyana Karate Club (GKC),  held a grading session last Friday at the Malteenoes Sport Club (MSC) under Sheiki Shian Frank Woon-A-Tai.
