The set target for the first rice crop is close to being achieved despite the effects of the La Nina weather phenomenon, Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud said on Wednesday.
During a press briefing, Persaud said the effects of La Nina have been minimal in not only rice but also in cash crops and livestock production, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA).
Last year, the rice industry recorded 360,000 tonnes, representing the highest production for the sector, despite disruption by the El Nino and La Nina weather patterns, which drastically affected farmers.
