The Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Federation will stage its annual Karate championships on May 15 at the Banks DIH Sports Club at Thirst Park from 10am.
Chief Instructor of the Federation 5th Dan Black Belt Sensei Winston Dunbar said that approximately 40 students will participate in the championships which will bring together students from Banks DIH dojo, Mae’s School and Eccles Primary School.
Prizes for the championships were donated by two former students of the federation who now reside in the United States of America.
Sensei Dunbar disclosed that Terrance Clarke and Michael Mendonca, two black belt martial arts students, who reside in the USA, recently donated medals for the event.
“Banks DIH has always supported our programmes and refreshments will be provided by the beverage company,” he added. Sensei Dunbar said Banks DIH Communications Manager Troy Peters was invited to deliver the opening remarks at the one-day programme.
The students also participate in the Annual National Youth Week championships which would attract junior karatekas countrywide at the event to be held at Cliff Anderson Sports Hall at the end of this month.
