BANGALORE, (Reuters) – Chris Gayle blasted an astonishing 37 off one seven-ball over to set Royal Challengers Bangalore on their way to a nine-wicket romp over Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the Indian Premier League today.
The former West Indies captain plundered paceman Prasanth Parameswaran for four sixes and three fours in the second over of Bangalore’s reply — his sequence going: six, six (no-ball), four, four, six, six, four.
Gayle was bowled by Viney Kumar for 44 but an unbeaten 52 from Tillakaratne Dilshan took Bangalore past Kochi’s 125 for nine with 6.5 overs to spare at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as Kochi captain Mahela Jayawardene was left to rue his decision to bat first.
In Mohali, Pune Warriors beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets to snap their seven-match losing streak.
For Pune, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Wayne Parnell, Rahul Sharma and Mitchell Marsh claimed two wickets each to restrict the hosts to 119-8.
Pune skipper Yuvraj Singh struck a brisk 35 as his team romped home with 17 balls to spare.
