Corporate Communications Officer of the West Indies Cricket Board Imran Khan said yesterday that West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul will play in the two-day match for Guyana against Pakistan at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground as he was originally slated to.
With this revelation, it is clear that Chanderpaul would not be a part of the mixed West Indies teams that will be playing at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) today in another practice match before Thursday’s first Digicel Test match between Pakistan and West Indies at the Guyana National Stadium.
Initially, the confusion came about when the embattled Chandrepaul was named in a 15-man West Indies Test squad and it was also reported that he would have been appearing for the West Indies team at the DCC ground. However, Stabroek Sport learnt yesterday that he will be playing for the national team, since he was originally named for the Guyana team for Pakistan fixture.
On the other hand, Khan said that the West Indies squad will be divided in two and there will be a mix of top local players playing against each other. It is not yet sure who some of the local players will be but Stabroek Sport learnt that all-rounder Christopher Barnwell, who played a T20I for the West Indies last month and who left out of the Guyana team for the Pakistan match, will play in one of the Windies teams.
Khan revealed also that Ramnaresh Sarwan will be playing for the Windies steam today.
